The Town of Newmarket is hosting an information session for potential candidates on June 21

Newmarket, June 9, 2022 –The Town of Newmarket is hosting a candidate information session on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 from 7 to 9 p.m. and encourages anyone who wants to learn about running in the municipal election to attend. Attendees will learn about filing a nomination and registering as a candidate, campaign requirements, and the roles and responsibilities of local elected officials. Anyone who has ever considered running for Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Regional Councillor, Council member or school board trustee is encouraged to attend.

The presentation will be delivered by Lisa Lyons, Director of Legislative Services/Town Clerk for the Town of Newmarket with a special guest presentation by municipal leadership expert, John Shaffter.

Attendees can join the session virtually via Zoom at the link provided at www.newmarketvotes.ca/candidateinfosession, or they may attend in-person in the Council Chambers in the Newmarket Municipal Offices (395 Mulock Drive). The session is free of charge and no pre-registration is required.

Prospective candidates who want to run for office in the 2022 Town of Newmarket municipal election can file their nominations until August 19, 2022 at 2 p.m. This year, during a 10-day voting period from October 15 to October 24, Newmarket electors will vote to elect one Mayor, one Deputy Mayor and Regional Councillor, seven Councillors – each representing one of Newmarket’s seven wards, and one school board trustee for each of the four school boards serving Newmarket.
